"Teenagers may carry the highest levels of bisphenol A – about 30 per cent more than the rest of the population, according to the first national survey about the compound conducted by Statistics Canada, but exposure to the estrogen-mimicking chemical is widespread, with detectible levels in 91 per cent of Canadians." It has also been detected in the umbilical cord blood of 90% of newborn babies who were tested!

BPA, a product of the petro-chemical industry, can be found in plastics, baby products, CD-s, in the lining of tin cans, in the lining of the paper they print your receipt on and a whole lot of other products such as flame retardants or white dental fillings!

It is a well known endocrine disruptor, mimicking estrogen therefore can contribute to hormone related cancers such as breast cancer, prostate cancer and testicular cancer; can damage sperm and therefore can contribute to infertility, it may also be one of the causes of early onset of puberty in girls and can have an effect on early brain and neurological development.

Canada is the first country to ban BPA in baby bottles.

The biggest producers of BPA are Bayer, Dow, GE Plastics, Shell and Mitsubishi, Mitsui (Japan), and Wuxi Resin in China, Kesar in India.

I have known about how harmful plastics are for a long time, but from now on, I will stop using plastic bottles to carry my drinking water around and also will stop buying canned food including fish, sauces, vegetables, etc.
